The perfect restoration retreat …

As mentioned already, there’s no Wi-Fi at The Shepherds Hide. In today’s modern world it’s hard to switch off. Which is why we created The Shepherds Hut with the vision of enabling guests to recharge and restore. To remember the basic pleasure of connecting with the great outdoors. To a sense of the seasons and time away from the fevered rhythm of the modern world.

Parking & outdoor space …

You have private allocated parking where you can transport your belongings by wheelbarrow past the mill pond, through the trees to the secluded Shepherds Hide.

Once settled, you can step down onto the patio to enjoy a glass of wine, watch the sun set and start to relax to the sounds of ducks on the mill pond and surrounding birdlife.

Within proximity …

Venturing slightly further afield by foot, there’s marvellous bird watching along the Colne Estuary which is easily accessible direct from The Shepherds Hide.

The farm has the only fully restored water mill in Essex located within its heart, Thorrington Tide Mill. This is now owned by Essex County Council and is open as a museum between April and September on the last Sunday of every month, some bank holidays and special mill open days.

Or why not enjoy the animals on the farm – we have a menagerie of tame ducks, chickens, guinea fowl and our two Dartmoor ponies, Rosie and Faye.

Enjoy delicious strawberries like no other …

During the Summer between late May and mid-July (season length subject to weather) the farm opens to the public to ‘Pick Your Own Strawberries’, which you shouldn’t miss. We promise you will not have picked and tasted such amazing strawberries. They are truly wonderful. We’ve been growing strawberries here for over 37 years, choosing varieties for their delicious flavour - a world away from supermarket varieties!

Whilst this is a busy time of year, let me assure you that the Shepherds Hide is tucked away from the busy hub so your little oasis will not be disturbed.

Enjoy your stay …

We - Mark and Polly Baines - live on the farm and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have at any time during your stay.
