Many thanks and we look forward to welcoming you back to our glamping retreat soon.
Absolutely wonderful short stay. Immaculately clean with everything you could ask for. No TV no internet no phone.......bliss!
Absolutely first class time. Brilliant relaxing atmosphere.
Amazing, fantastic, beautiful and tranquil.
Thank you for such a wonderful weekend at the Shepherds Hide, we are already looking to return soon and recommending to others that they have to go and experience the place for themselves.
So well equipped and spotlessly clean. Thoughtful breakfast basket.
Real attention to detail.
A lovely weekend.
The walk from the hide, along the river to wivenhoe took us a slow two hours. Great bird watching along the way. Lunch in the black buoy pub was excellent and reasonably priced.
Lovely quiet site yet near to facilities if you wanted them. Great to be without mobiles, broadband and tele! Wished we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful location, next to a small lake, surrounded by nature.
We had a fantastic time.
The hut was great - really comfortable and had everything you'd need. Very cosy with wood burner.
Nice walk to Wivenhoe where there are a couple of nice pubs to eat. Took us just over an hour to walk there.
Perfect for a nice relaxing chill out. Would definitely stay again.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for his 21st birthday last June and it was beyond perfect. The cabin was furnished beautifully and the owners had put thought into every tiny detail. There is also a fully functioning bathroom and an enormously comfortable king size bed, which made our stay here even more pleasant! The location was also a massive bonus for us, as we could relax in the country side at the cabin if we chose to but could also drive to nearby pubs and restaurants if we fancied it. Would recommend the Shepherds Hide to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing retreat, it's 10/10!
The location is very private and secluded from the main property overlooking a large pond so you feel world's away from any hustle and bustle. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly. You are greeted with a welcome basket of locally produced goods which is a lovely touch. The accommodation is comfortable, cosy and very well thought out. We loved it, highly recommend and will be returning next year.
Walk along the Colne river to Wivenhoe, eat at the Black Buoy pub in Wivenhoe, eat at Emma's Kitchen in Frinton on sea.
Polly & Mark could not have been more welcoming on our arrival, or more helpful; nor did they bother us when we wanted to enjoy the solitude of the location. The Shepherd's Hide is a delight and beautifully equipped.
Loved our stay here, there is nothing I would change.
Polly and Mark were so helpful before and during our stay. The Shepherds Hide was a fantastic place to stay and ever so peaceful. Despite being chased by the on-site chickens, I would definitely recommend this to anyone - if anything just for the amazing strawberry jam in the breakfast hamper!
The walk to Wivenhoe is gorgeous and very peaceful. Took us just over an hour on the way and about an hour and a half on the way back due to a few drinks at The Black Buoy, which I must say is a great pub with amazing food!
We really enjoyed out visit to the shepards hide. It was well equipped with everything you would need for a few days away and more. The surroundings were beautiful and the wildlife were lovey to see. A lovey get away to be in peace and quiet.
Be prepared for no phone signal, which was a blessing in disguise as you could relax and enjoy the surroundings.
The kitchen is well equipped and the hide can be really warm with the log burner on.
A lovely warm welcome from the animal and the welcome breakfast basket is full version of nice eggs and Jam.
Such a perfect get away for the break we really needed. Not far from London this was a real find. The hut was equipped with everything we needed. Super clean and comfortable king size bed and amazing shower! They supplied us with a breakfast hamper - this included fresh eggs from their own hens. If the scenery didn't top it off it was the fact that they also had a pick your own strawberry farm......yum! Fresh strawberry's with our champers! Beautifully secluded by the edge of a mill pond... what more could we have wished for!
Amazing place, highly recommend it.
Fantastically well equipped and lots of lovely personal touches. The farm and surrounding area were stunning and in a great location for walks into Wivenhoe and Brighlingsea. We left feeling very relaxed and excited for our next trip.
The Black Buoy in Wivenhoe for Sunday lunch or take the boat across the river to the Anchor for picturesque drinks.
BBQ's by the Shepherds Hut were by far our favourite.
We had a wonderful stay.
Beautiful location and amazing quality of shepherds hut. The views and location is peaceful and tranquil. We loved listening to the ducks and birds. Picking our own delicious strawberries for breakfast was great. We couldn't rate it any higher and will be booking it again in the future.
Mersea Island water sports centre- you can join a SUP (stand up paddling) lesson followed by delicious movenpick ice cream from black pearl cafe.
Frinton was lovely, the beach was sandy lined by pretty beach huts.
Beautiful area. Amazing sunset from patio. Interesting walking route to Wivenhoe.
I would recommend Black buoy in Wivenhoe. Very tasty homemade burger.
Absolutely lovely all around, the place is amazing and homely with everything you could need, set in a beautiful secluded location from which you can explore the surrounding countryside! Would definitely recommend and would visit again!
Owner on site if needed but complete privacy in Shepherd's Hut.Ideal place to get away from it all and unwind and relax.Beautiful surroundings and well equipped accommodation
We enjoyed a lovely walk at Wivenhoe. The tide mill on site was open during our visit and was well worth a visit.Delicious strawberries on their pick your own farm.
The Shepherd's hide is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Great location in a secluded spot on the edge of the mill pond/lake, easy to find with the clear instructions and a warm welcome on arrival. The hut is modern and well equipped - all the small details have been thought about and the hamper with local produce is a very nice touch. Hope to visit again.
The walk to Wivenhoe is pleasant and it's a really friendly village with a few nice shops. We ate at the Black Buoy, as recommended to us by the hosts. We enjoyed lunch and it has a nice outside area if the weather suits.
Excellent accommodation in and excellent location
Enjoy the peace and wildlife. Walk to Wivenhoe along the creek and visit Brighlingsea.
We have stayed in other luxury shepherd huts. The shepherds hide is equal to the best in our experience but the shepherds hide will be difficult to beat for location. Anyone wanting to get closer to nature but enjoy a little luxury at the same time will be hard pushed to find anything better. My wife and I are what we regard to be wildlife enthusiasts. The location of the shepherds hide was perfect for us. Lots of waders, water fowl, birds of prey and many more within close proximity. Not to mention the farm yard characters, chickens, ducks and geese. No tv and no wifi was a bonus."
Just an amazing place to get lost from the hassle and bassle of the London life and being a pro athlete it's just nice place to have down time. Waking up to nature and its surroundings was the best chilled weekend and had the most amazing sleep.
There's a walk path around the lake and into local villages which is amazing for a 6am walk.the boat house restaurant is a very cute restaurant and don't forget to hire a boat and paddle up river it's so relaxing and for a nice breakfast there's a local coffee shop in brightling on sea front. I'd give this place and its surroundings 10/10
What a wonderful stay. The hide was beautiful, the location stunning, and the welcome warm. The ideal place to unwind and enjoy the outstanding views across the lake. Near enough to places of interest, secluded enough to feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind! The hide is beautifully appointed, cosy and comfortable. Oh, and the free range eggs, local jam and wholemeal bread provided for your breakfast are truly delicious! Thank you Polly!
Absolutely wonderful stay at the Shepherds Hide. Beautiful and serene setting and being the only hut for guests to stay in it's extremely peaceful and private. Polly and Mark were great hosts and the breakfast they provided for the first morning was delicious - highly recommend their homemade strawberry jam! The hut itself was tremendous - clean, comfortable, spacious, warm and provided everything you need for self-catering. Loved the chickens, ducks guinea-fowl and goose that greeted us each morning plus all the wildlife spotted from the hut.
Take a book or two - it was the first time I'd managed to read in ages and I loved it!
Some beautiful areas around, including Dedham and Wivenhoe but, if driving, just beware of the strange double and two-way roundabouts in Colchester!
I could not rate this accommodation highly enough. It was outstanding the facilities available to myself and the significant other i was with. The log burner was a magical touch, provided a nice cosy warm feel to the hide. The whole hut was spotless, it was amazingly clean and fresh. The hosts were absolutely lovely and friendly. The hide is sat overlooking a beautiful lake which made for a spectacular view of the sunset.
Colchester is just a short drive away, yet there are things a lot closer to home. Amazing walks available, and just sitting outside the hut is a great way to spend the time. Lots of pubs and restaurants all around. All in all the hut is in a perfect location and i will definitely be returning.
My wife and I came for a relaxed weekend, which we got. Without a TV or radio it's a great place to switch off. We took a pleasant walk recommended by Polly, to Thorrington for lunch. Highly recommended and would return."
Everything about The Shepherds Hide is excellent. Our stay was very brief (2 nights) and during a cold and wet February but it couldn't be more perfect. The hide itself it incredibly well fitted out and no expense has been spared. Whether it's the beautiful linens, modern chunky crockery, eco friendly household products, underfloor heating...even the toaster created the most perfectly even, golden, toast I've ever seen.
On our arrival we found a welcome hamper with fresh eggs from the owner's chickens, milk, bread, jam, etc. It was a really nice touch.
My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Sitting on the bed, watching the ducks on the pond, and listening to the patter of raindrops was magical. I'll definitely be back.
Absolutely wonderful stay at the Shepherds Hide for our wedding anniversary/babymoon. Beautiful and serene setting and being the only hut for guests to stay in it's extremely peaceful and private. Having read the existing reviews on The Shepherds Hide, my wife and I had high expectations. Well, what can I say? It exceeded them in every way. Our visit coincided with 'Storm Imogen' and we must admit we did wonder how the first night would be. The underfloor heating, log burner, and VERY comfortable bed meant we were nice and cosy, and actually had the best night's sleep we've had in a really long time! One of the things that really makes it special, is that the owners have added some truly lovely touches to the Hide. Waiting for us in the kitchen was a basket of local produce which included some homemade jam, bread, juice and eggs. They'd also thoughtfully provided tea, coffee, sugar, milk and butter. The kitchen is very well stocked with pans, crockery cutlery and cooking utensils, so if you feel so inclined, you can cook a proper meal on the stove and oven. The Hide is spotlessly clean, organised and most importantly (at least to us) is set in peaceful and quiet surroundings. It was just what we needed, the perfect retreat.

We loved our New Years stay, a lot of quirky villages to visit be we could never wait to get back to the cosy hut to enjoy it. The grounds are so peaceful, would be sure to stop again.
Such a lovely, clean, peacefull place. If you need peace in your life please book this !! There are beautiful walk from your door and you are away from all the madness in the world. The location is one of the most relaxing places I have stayed and you come away refreshed and wishing you were staying another week. Thank you to Polly and Mark for your lovely breakfast for the first day. We will return.
We had the most amazing relaxing weekend here. The hut is situated on a beautiful farm complete with chickens and ducks, a short walk away from the main buildings but it feels like a little world of its own. It is on the banks of a peaceful mill pond surrounded by trees and bushes that mean you might spy some wildlife like rabbits when you wake up!
The hut itself is really modern, beautifully decorated and with all possible amenities. You can tell that the owners have put in a real personal touch. We especially loved the locally sourced breakfast that was left in a basked with a cute note from the owners including Apple juice from a local orchard, eggs from their chickens and strawberries from the pick your own fields on site.
Highly recommended for a peaceful, romantic escape. There is little phone signal or Internet but that is what makes is so special and calming.
I just wanted to thank you for having us this weekend. It was AMAZING! You were ever so hospitable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. No negative comments what’s so ever it was just perfect! We will 100% be back and I think a few of our friends will also be wanting to pay you a visits after seeing the snaps!
